One of the things I liked about the XBox360 was the ability to play digital media from the network (like movies or music) to a TV. I’ve always seen it shown via the Media Center Extender. Over my wifi (N) network – that sucks! Just browsing the Media Center is s-l-o-w.
I switched my media over to my Windows Home Server 2011 machine last week from an old PC. At first, I was left thinking that I still had to use Media Center on that PC via the Extender. That didn’t work well. And then I saw I could just play a video direct from the home server. Much better. Now awful browse, and the media actually plays over wifi.
Keeping it simple just works so much better.
Now if only the Xbox team could give me a media player where I could just jump to a point in a movie instead of having to fast forward …
