I have completely rewritten my article on last night’s announcement on FreeBSD support for Hyper-V. I based it on an article on the Microsoft Openness blog. The quality of the post was very poor. I’ve since gone trawling all over the place to get the correct facts:
- The story is about FreeBSD working on Hyper-V, not that Hyper-V will support FreeBSD. Check the wording of the Microsoft Openness post title.
- The FreeBSD integration components are only beta (not stated in the Openness blog)
- It only applies to the 8.2 version of FreeBSD – there have since been 8.3 and 9.0 releases that are not going to be supported by the integration components until post-beta by the looks of it.
Apologies if my original article (now updated) was misleading. It was based on the information presented in the Microsoft Openness blog article. I got more information by following several chains of links from that post. I will update if I get any more information on this subject.
