I tried to access our Cisco support account today which is registered using my email address.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t remember my password so I did the \u201creset password dance\u201d.\u00a0 That\u2019s where things went wrong.\u00a0 I entered my email.\u00a0 This is where it all went wrong.\u00a0 Normally what happens here is that the system checks to see if the email is valid.\u00a0 If so, it\u2019s either sent a new temporary password or a link to a one-time-only reset URL.\u00a0 There\u2019s nothing insecure about that: the email is a valid user so what\u2019s wrong with them knowing their own password?<\/p>\n
This is where Suckso, sorry, Cisco disagrees.\u00a0 They sent me an email to tell me what my email address was.\u00a0 [sarcasm] MAGNIFICENT! [\/sarcasm].\u00a0 To reset my password they gave me a URL.\u00a0 I followed that.<\/p>\n
It went on to ask me some security questions to which I had not set answers for.\u00a0 How could that be optional?\u00a0 Back to the email.\u00a0 I was told to email a certain address if I did not have the answers to the optional security questions.<\/p>\n
I did and here was the response:<\/p>\n

For Security Reasons noone in CISCO has any Access to your Password or Security questions. If the online Password reset does not work for any reason including but not limited to forgotten answers to security questions you will unfortunately have to register a new account. <\/p>\n
