I grew up in rural Ireland, in a bog to be precise.\u00a0 My secondary (junior high & high) school was 4 miles away so I used to get a minibus to and from every morning and evening.\u00a0 It used to do two runs and I was usually on the second run after school.\u00a0 That left us with an hour to kill every afternoon.\u00a0 A few of us sometimes would go to the local pool hall to hang out.\u00a0 One of the lads didn\u2019t understand the concept of tactics.\u00a0 He just used to strike the cue ball as hard as possible every single time.\u00a0 We used to joke that his motto for life was \u201cif you hit it hard enough then it\u2019ll be alright\u201d, e.g. if you crashed your car at 100MPH you\u2019ll probably bounce to safety rather than dying at 60MPH. <\/p>\n
Some people apply the same strategy to using a phone.\u00a0 They call up with their caller ID turned off.\u00a0 I\u2019m in a meeting and can\u2019t answer.\u00a0 Instead of them leaving a voice mail (which they\u2019re auto prompted to do) they \u201chit it harder\u201d and call again.\u00a0 I again reject the call because I\u2019m still in a meeting.\u00a0 They still don\u2019t leave a voice mail. <\/p>\n
