{"id":9486,"date":"2009-03-03T10:55:00","date_gmt":"1999-11-29T20:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=9486"},"modified":"2009-03-03T10:55:00","modified_gmt":"1999-11-29T20:00:00","slug":"issues-with-opsmgr-2007-w2008-cluster-management-pack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=9486","title":{"rendered":"Issues With OpsMgr 2007 W2008 Cluster Management Pack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last two weeks I said a few things:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The management pack for Windows Server 2008 Failover Clustering was <a href=\"http:\/\/joeelway.spaces.live.com\/blog\/cns!2095EAC3772C41DB!1974.entry\" target=\"_blank\">available<\/a>.\n<\/li>\n<li>You really <a href=\"http:\/\/joeelway.spaces.live.com\/blog\/cns!2095EAC3772C41DB!1982.entry\" target=\"_blank\">need to install the pre-requisite updates<\/a> before installing the management packs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>MS\u2019s System Center teams have been <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.technet.com\/operationsmgr\/archive\/2009\/03\/02\/a-couple-issues-regarding-the-recent-cluster-management-pack.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">reminding<\/a> people about the need to apply updates.\u00a0 I guess PSS must\u2019ve had a few phone calls on the issues the updates resolve.\n<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also an issue with the clustering management pack on clusters that have large numbers of resources, e.g. 60+.\u00a0 That\u2019s not your typical Exchange or SQL cluster \u2026 but it could easily be a Hyper-V cluster.\u00a0 The issue is that a \u201cResource State Monitor\u201d monitor is checking resource availability every 60 seconds and is clobbering the CPU.\u00a0 You can override this by setting it to something larger.\u00a0 I\u2019m probably going with every 10 or 15 minutes.\u00a0 My VMM integration will instantly let me know if a VM goes offline so that covers the disappearing resource issue.\u00a0 MS is internally updating the management pack to fix this monitor.\n<\/p>\n<p>People know I\u2019m an OpsMgr junkie.\u00a0 Honestly, I\u2019m not impressed.\u00a0 Wouldn\u2019t the dog food tests in MS find this on their large Hyper-V farms?\u00a0 Also, there\u2019s no sign of a \u201cResource State Monitor\u201d.\u00a0 There is a \u201cResource Group State Monitor\u201d.\u00a0 Is this what they are referring to?\u00a0 Who knows!\u00a0 If anyone does then please share.\n<\/p>\n<p>EDIT #1:\n<\/p>\n<p>The mystery deepens!\u00a0 I did some research and found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opsmanjam.com\/OpsManJam Library\/MPViewer Dumps\/Microsoft Windows Cluster Management Pack\/WindowsClusterManagementMonitoringmp.html\">this<\/a>.\u00a0 This would seem to say that the &quot;Resource State Monitor&quot; is in a &quot;Cluster Resource&quot; target in &quot;Windows Cluster Management Monitoring Version 6.0.6277.1&quot;.\u00a0 Huh!?\u00a0 First, my management packs were brand new and downloaded from the catalog after the RTM announcement.\u00a0 The version of that library is 6.0.6505.0 on my system.\u00a0 No previous edition of the management pack were installed.\u00a0 Next, the &quot;Cluster Resource&quot; target does not exist on my RMS.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve double checked and all components were installed.\u00a0 Something smells very fishy to me on this management pack release.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last two weeks I said a few things: The management pack for Windows Server 2008 Failover Clustering was available.
