{"id":9401,"date":"2009-02-05T09:29:00","date_gmt":"1999-11-29T20:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=9401"},"modified":"2009-02-05T09:29:00","modified_gmt":"1999-11-29T20:00:00","slug":"hyper-v-server-2008-r2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=9401","title":{"rendered":"Hyper-V Server 2008 R2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The MS Virtualization team <a title=\"posted some details \" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.technet.com\/virtualization\/archive\/2009\/01\/16\/Beta-of-standalone-hypervisor_3A00_-Hyper_2D00_V-Server-2008-R2.aspx\">posted some details <\/a>on what to expect from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/hvs\" target=\"_blank\">Hyper-V Server 2008 R2<\/a>: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Failover Clustering with Live Migration:\u00a0 This is a huge addition bringing Hyper-V Server closer to production environments. <\/li>\n<li>Memory Support: You can have up to 1TB of RAM in a host.\u00a0 That\u2019s not exactly going to affect many people \ud83d\ude42 <\/li>\n<li>Processors: You can have up to 32 logical processors (cores).\u00a0 The \u201csweet spot\u201d for sockets is 4 so this implies support for 8 core processors. <\/li>\n<li>Updated configuration utility: Anyone who hates the command line administration of Server Core should appreciate the basic DOS-style wizard in the current release of Hyper-V Server 2008.\u00a0 R2 adds more functionality to this.\u00a0 I wish MS would do something like this for the normal Core installation, heck, maybe they have already \u2013 I haven\u2019t checked yet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One thing will stop it from going into production for me.\u00a0 The current release cannot be managed by OpsMgr 2007 SP1 (the agent installer doesn\u2019t recognise the operating system) and a VMM agent crashes repeatedly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The MS Virtualization team posted some details on what to expect from Hyper-V Server 2008 R2: Failover Clustering with Live Migration:\u00a0 This is a huge addition bringing Hyper-V Server closer to production environments.
