I started of talking to Jalasoft.\u00a0 They produce extensions for OpsMgr 2007 to monitor things like network devices and other OS’s and applications.\u00a0 My interest was in Cisco network devices.\u00a0 License is around $100 per device.\u00a0 There is a Jalasoft console purely for configuring connectivity to the monitored devices and identifying what ports to monitor and what rules to enable.\u00a0 All monitoring activity and reporting is done in the OpsMgr console.\u00a0 Looks nice.<\/p>\n
I moved on to Ask The Experts: Hyper-V.\u00a0 I raised my AV issue which raised some eyebrows – they want to swap some emails on the issue.\u00a0 I also raised NIC teaming.\u00a0 MS is working on fixing that.\u00a0 No timetables.<\/p>\n
Then on to HP.\u00a0 I brought up HP’s Network Configuration Utility NIC teaming for Hyper-V.\u00a0 It’s the #1 issue for their internal S\/W development right now.\u00a0 They are working with MS on resolving the issue.\u00a0 They admitted poor communications with the public.\u00a0 There will be announcements in a few weeks time.\u00a0 It will be an industry solution rather than a HP solution.<\/p>\n
I then talked to Beyond Trust (t-shirt!).\u00a0 They provide a solution where no one needs to be an admin.\u00a0 You use GPO to define tasks that require admin rights.\u00a0 Anytime their agent sees this running, the task is elevated as an admin but still runs as the user.\u00a0 All logging shows the user doing the work.\u00a0 GPO is per user and per machine.\u00a0 Using loopback you can get into some nice scenarios for controlling admin usage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
