Windows Server 2008<\/a> is nearly here.\u00a0 I’d already heard RTM would be early February and general availability would be early March.\u00a0 MSDN, TechNet and Volume License subscribers would all have download access within a couple of weeks of RTM.\u00a0 Bink has confirmed<\/a> that W2008’s source code will be\u00a0frozen in preparation for RTM on January 16th.\u00a0 You can expect launch parties to be held by Microsoft in\u00a0your local area in the coming 2 months.<\/p>\n

I’ve been asked by a contact in Microsoft to start blogging a bit about Windows Server 2008.\u00a0 I’m going to try talk about what to look for.\u00a0 Unlike some of my previous efforts with SCOM 2007, WSUS\u00a03.0\u00a0and FCS, I’m not going to be able to spend loads of time getting into deep detail for another couple of months.\u00a0 I’ve got another project on going that will eat up that time.\u00a0 But I will talk about what you should be looking forward to and researching, in other words, how to answer that age old question "why should I upgrade?".\u00a0 There’s plenty of good reasons.\u00a0 I do have some content already written that appears to be\u00a0unwanted at the moment.\u00a0 I’ll see if I can convert that and post it in the next few days.<\/p>\n
