{"id":15620,"date":"2013-10-19T09:12:50","date_gmt":"2013-10-19T08:12:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=15620"},"modified":"2013-10-19T09:12:50","modified_gmt":"2013-10-19T08:12:50","slug":"virtualisation-momentum-shifted-vmware-versus-microsoft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=15620","title":{"rendered":"Virtualisation Momentum Shifted \u2013 VMware Versus Microsoft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just saw a picture that (Microsoft executive) Brad Anderson <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/InTheCloudMSFT\/status\/390953008046931968\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\">tweeted<\/a> that was taken last Thursday at the IPExpo event in the UK.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/BWzxsIECAAA-bQn.jpg:large\" width=\"600\" height=\"369\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is where a <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/29215923\" target=\"_blank\">Tad<\/a> fanboy will proclaim that no big company <em>really<\/em> uses Hyper-V.&#160; Let me tell you of my experiences in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>1 year ago I presented at the UK launch of WS2012 in London.&#160; There were 1,000 people in the room.&#160; Outside our MVP lead set up a couple of white boards for MVPs to answer what we thought might be one or two questions.&#160; I personally had people from Fortune 500\u2019s (and I never name names in these scenarios) come up to me and say they now wanted to make the switch, and wanted to learn how.<\/p>\n<p>Last month I spoke at an MVP event, again in London, and once again, large companies filled the room.&#160; But what really caught my attention was one particular company.&#160; This is a very successful and internationally renowned company that operates on the <u>extreme<\/u> edges of performance.&#160; One could almost say they work in a life and death business where milliseconds are the difference between success and being out of business.&#160; They use Hyper-V.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not saying this has been easy.&#160; The program managers, architects, developers and testers of the product, the Microsoft field staff, all have done amazing work.&#160; Folks in the community, such as us MVPs, stood on stages in the early days and took abuse for 40-75 minutes while we told people what was coming.<\/p>\n<p>Market share you say?&#160; Yes, VMware still leads, but that lead is shrinking.&#160; It\u2019s just a matter of time now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just saw a picture that (Microsoft executive) Brad Anderson tweeted that was taken last Thursday at the IPExpo event in the UK.
