{"id":15171,"date":"2013-07-09T08:52:09","date_gmt":"2013-07-09T07:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=15171"},"modified":"2013-07-09T08:52:09","modified_gmt":"2013-07-09T07:52:09","slug":"microsoft-kills-technet-subscriptionspeak-now-or-forever-hold-your-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=15171","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft Kills TechNet Subscription\u2013Speak Now Or Forever Hold Your Peace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is last week\u2019s news but I was a little occupied and, to be honest, a refresher isn\u2019t a bad thing.&#160; Last week, Microsoft sent out notifications to TechNet subscribers that the subscription service was coming to an end:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/image1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/image_thumb1.png\" width=\"504\" height=\"498\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>TechNet Subscription is a service where you can get just about every Microsoft install products (minus the dev ones) for evaluation purposes.&#160; IT Pros have used TechNet as a means for evaluating, testing, and learning Microsoft products over the years.&#160; At a modest fee of a few hundred, it was a great value service.&#160; Without TechNet Subscription I could never have become an MVP.&#160; I could have run home labs, I couldn\u2019t have done demos in presentations.&#160; Before that, I leaned on TechNet to run a lab to learn Server, AD, Virtual Server (when you had to pay for it), etc.&#160; What I learned what transferred to the production network.<\/p>\n<p>Now IT Pros are to seek alternatives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Evaluation Center: Get time-limited trials.&#160; Sorry, but we IT Pros are kind of busy.&#160; We can\u2019t be rebuilding labs from scratch every 90-180 days.&#160; Are you trying to make like <em>more<\/em> difficult?&#160; I had an interesting chat with a MOC trainer (a very large international company) a few weeks ago.&#160; He was driven insane by the need to redeploy entire training environments every 3 months because of activation limitations.<\/li>\n<li>Virtual Academy: Seriously?!?!?
