{"id":14448,"date":"2013-04-07T18:38:39","date_gmt":"2013-04-07T17:38:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=14448"},"modified":"2013-04-07T18:38:39","modified_gmt":"2013-04-07T17:38:39","slug":"end-of-support-dates-for-free-hyper-v-server","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=14448","title":{"rendered":"End of Support Dates For Free Hyper-V Server"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I got to wondering when the end of life for support was coming for the free-to-download\/use versions of Hyper-V would be.&#160; They are free, and there\u2019s not much reason not to be either on the current or on the most recent edition.<\/p>\n<p>I searched and found:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/image5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/image_thumb4.png\" width=\"504\" height=\"227\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of note:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>End of mainstream support for Hyper-V Server 2008 is 14th January, 2014.&#160; That\u2019s 1 year earlier than Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V.<\/li>\n<li>Even though Hyper-V Server 2008 is still in mainstream support, it\u2019s not supported by VMM 2012 SP1.<\/li>\n<li>In fact, Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 RTM is also going out of mainstream support on the same date.<\/li>\n<li>I haven\u2019t a clue when Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 SP1 goes out of mainstream or extended support.&#160; The note on that is \u2026 confusing:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Support ends 12 months after the next service pack releases or at the end of the product&#8217;s support lifecycle, whichever comes first.
