{"id":14132,"date":"2013-01-28T10:53:38","date_gmt":"2013-01-28T10:53:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=14132"},"modified":"2013-01-28T10:53:38","modified_gmt":"2013-01-28T10:53:38","slug":"kb2804526-fixes-a-number-of-third-party-storage-issues-with-ws2012-clusters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=14132","title":{"rendered":"KB2804526 \u2013 Fixes A Number Of Third Party Storage Issues with WS2012 Clusters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft has released a number of fixes for when a third-party storage resource is configured in a Windows Server 2012-based failover cluster, certain features do not work.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/2795997\"><u>KB2795997<\/u><\/a><strong><\/strong><strong><u> UI is displayed incorrectly when you right-click a third-party disk resource in the Available Storage area in Windows Server 2012<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Assume that you configure a third-party disk resource in a Windows Server 2012-based failover cluster. In this situation, the following issues occur:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When you right-click the resource in the Available Storage area, an empty dialog box appears. <\/li>\n<li>When you left-click and then right-click the resource in the Available Storage area, the options in the right-hand pane are not displayed. For example, the <strong>Bring Online<\/strong>, <strong>Bring Offline<\/strong>, and <strong>Properties<\/strong> options are not displayed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This issue occurs because the failover cluster filters out the third-party storage resources, and the third-party storage resources are categorized as Other Resources.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>To resolve these issues, install the <a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/hotfix\/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=2795997\" target=\"_blank\">hotfix<\/a> together with the hotfixes that are described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 2795993 and 2796000<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/2796000\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><u>KB2796000<\/u><\/strong><\/a><strong><u> You cannot create a cluster file share on a third-party disk resource in Windows Server 2012<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Consider the following scenario:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You create a Windows Server 2012-based failover cluster by using third-party disk resources. <\/li>\n<li>You configure a File Server service resource in the Failover Cluster Management snap-in. <\/li>\n<li>You try to add a cluster file share in the File Server service resource.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> In this scenario, the following issues occur:    <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You cannot create the cluster file share by using the <strong>Add File Share<\/strong> shortcut menu.        <br \/><b>Note<\/b> If the <strong>Add File Share<\/strong> shortcut menu does not start, install the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article <a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/2795993\">2795993<\/a> to resolve this issue. <\/li>\n<li>When you try to create the cluster file share by using File Explorer, a Server Message Block (SMB) share is created instead of a cluster file share on the volume. For example, assume that you try to create a cluster file share that is named &quot; ContosoShare&quot; by using File Explorer on a drive named &quot;ThirdPartyDisk&quot; by using the following configuration:       <br \/>Cluster Name: <var>ContosoCluster<\/var>        <br \/>Cluster File server resource: \\<var>ContosoFileShare<\/var>        <br \/>Thirdparty storage resource that \\<var>ContosoFileShare<\/var> depends on: ThirdPartyDisk        <br \/>Server\/Node Name: <var>ContosoClusterNode1<\/var>        <br \/>Share Name: ContosoShare        <br \/>In this situation, the file share is accessed through the &quot;\\<var>ContosoClusterNode1<\/var>ContosoShare&quot; path instead of the &quot;\\<var>ContosoFileShare<\/var>ContosoShare&quot; path. <\/li>\n<li>You cannot create the cluster file share by using the <b>NetShare<\/b> API or a Windows PowerShell command. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following:\n<p>System error 87 \u2013 The parameter is incorrect<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This issue occurs because the Windows Server 2012-based failover cluster does not correctly determine the third-party disk to be a cluster disk.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>To resolve these issues, install the <a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/hotfix\/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=2796000\" target=\"_blank\">hotfix<\/a> together with the hotfixes that are described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 2795997 and 2795993.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/2795993\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><u>KB2795993<\/u><\/strong><\/a><strong><u> New Share Wizard does not start when you try to create a cluster file share on a third-party disk resource in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Consider the following scenario:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You create a Windows Server 2012-based failover cluster by using third-party disk resources. <\/li>\n<li>You configure a File Server service resource in the Failover Cluster Management snap-in. <\/li>\n<li>You try to add a cluster file share to the File Server service resource by using the <strong>Add File Share<\/strong> shortcut menu or the<strong>Actions<\/strong> pane.&#160; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> In this scenario, the following issues occur:    <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The New Share Wizard does not start from either the shortcut menu or the <strong>Actions<\/strong> pane. <\/li>\n<li>You cannot create the cluster file share by using a Windows PowerShell command, the <b>NetShare<\/b> API, or File Explorer. For more information about this issue, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/2796000\">2796000<\/a> You cannot create a cluster file share on a third-party disk resource in Windows Server 2012<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This issue occurs because the Failover Cluster Management snap-in in Windows Server 2012 assumes an incorrect order of the resources in the File Server role.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>To resolve these issues, install the <a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/hotfix\/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=2795993\" target=\"_blank\">hotfix<\/a> on a Windows Server 2012-based cluster node or on a Windows 8-based computer that has the Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 8 installed.
