{"id":13884,"date":"2012-12-12T11:08:38","date_gmt":"2012-12-12T11:08:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=13884"},"modified":"2012-12-12T11:08:38","modified_gmt":"2012-12-12T11:08:38","slug":"network-based-monitoring-solution-by-extrahop-appears-to-be-using-virtual-switch-extension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=13884","title":{"rendered":"Network Based Monitoring Solution By ExtraHop Appears To Be Using Virtual Switch Extension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just saw a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.extrahop.com\/post\/press-releases\/extrahop-cloud-microsoft-hyperv-apm-solution\/\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a> by ExtraHop where they say that they have made a:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u2026 Cloud Play with Industry-First Microsoft Hyper-V APM Solution and New Analysis-as-a-Service \u2026 The First Agentless APM Solution for Microsoft Hyper-V<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It seems that this application performance monitoring solution uses a virtual switch extension to get at data as it passes through the virtual networking of virtual machines.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u2026 a Hyper-V virtual appliance taking advantage of the new Hyper-V Virtual Switch capability \u2026 cross-tier operational visibility in a Hyper-V environment, correlating metrics across the application, network, web, database, and storage tiers<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>By working at the virtual switch layer they see all guest OSs and application traffic, and can monitor based on client\/user\/service interaction rather than on logs\/events\/monitors.&#160; There\u2019s no agent, just an extension that sends data \u2026 to a virtual appliance monitoring station (I think).
