{"id":13156,"date":"2012-07-18T18:14:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-18T17:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=13156"},"modified":"2012-07-18T18:14:00","modified_gmt":"2012-07-18T17:14:00","slug":"early-impressions-of-office-2013-beta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=13156","title":{"rendered":"Early Impressions Of Office 2013 Beta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I installed Office 2013 on my Windows 8 Build slate PC on Monday night.&#160; Here are some early impressions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u2019s very different looking.&#160; The layout has been optimized to make it touch friendly, but still appears to be mouse friendly.<\/li>\n<li>The new control that everyone is talking about reminds me of something in the Star Trek\u2019s of the last 20 years.<\/li>\n<li>I really like where Word has gone.&#160; Becoming a consumer of information is a great idea.&#160; It is now also a reader, can scale the doc to your tastes, and can remember where you left off.&#160; That makes it very Kindle-like.&#160; It can also open and edit PDF.&#160; Bye-bye Adobe Reader; you and your constant patching requirements (that are usually not done) won\u2019t be missed.<\/li>\n<li>As a person who writes the occasional white paper, I like how Word now allows flexible placement of images.&#160; Note that we never embed images when writing books; the editors do that in the later PDF stages.<\/li>\n<li>I <em>love<\/em> the new presenter view in PowerPoint.&#160; I\u2019ve been dreaming of presenting from my slate PC in the past.&#160; I hate being tied to behind a podium when presenting and I don\u2019t like looking back to the screen to remind me of what I\u2019m talking about on this slide.&#160; Plus being able to use \u201cink\u201d to highlight things will be useful.<\/li>\n<li>I haven\u2019t looked into Lync or Outlook too much yet.&#160; I have them working with Office365 with no extra work other than signing in (as usual).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don\u2019t ask me about Lync, SharePoint, and Exchange servers.&#160; I haven\u2019t a clue what\u2019s new yet.&#160; To be honest, they are usually outside of my scope of work.&#160; There is a boat load of new documentation on download.microsoft.com for the \u201cwave 15\u201d betas of Office.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px\" id=\"scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:5f93b3c8-2151-45cf-b6af-7184c308dbf7\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\">Technorati Tags: <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Office\" rel=\"tag\">Office<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Exchange\" rel=\"tag\">Exchange<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Lync\" rel=\"tag\">Lync<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/SharePoint\" rel=\"tag\">SharePoint<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I installed Office 2013 on my Windows 8 Build slate PC on Monday night.&#160; Here are some early impressions: It\u2019s very different looking.&#160; The layout has been optimized to make it touch friendly, but still appears to be mouse friendly.
