{"id":13132,"date":"2012-07-09T19:55:31","date_gmt":"2012-07-09T18:55:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=13132"},"modified":"2012-07-09T19:55:31","modified_gmt":"2012-07-09T18:55:31","slug":"windows-8-and-server-2012-rtmga-dates-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=13132","title":{"rendered":"Windows 8 and Server 2012 RTM\/GA Dates Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was actually under a rock, busy delivering some training, so I missed the WPC keynotes and the <a href=\"http:\/\/windowsteamblog.com\/windows\/b\/bloggingwindows\/archive\/2012\/07\/09\/upcoming-windows-milestones-shared-with-partners-at-wpc.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">announcements<\/a> today.&#160; <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows 8 is on track to RTM on the first week of August, assuming that there are no <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Showstopper-Breakneck-Windows-Generation-Microsoft\/dp\/0759285780%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAIJ5WNI7ZSH7W4OXA%26tag%3Dafm0c-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D0759285780\" target=\"_blank\">showstoppers<\/a> between now and then.<\/li>\n<li>Customers with Software Assurance will have access to the downloads via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/licensing\/servicecenter\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Volume Licensing Service Center<\/a> (VLSC) by the end of August.<\/li>\n<li>The Windows 8 Store will go live (in other words, go commercial) at RTM time.<\/li>\n<li>GA will be by the end of October.&#160; That\u2019s when you\u2019ll see designed-for-Windows 8 machines for the first time in the stores.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Windows Server 2012 will RTM in August and be \u201c<em><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.technet.com\/b\/windowsserver\/archive\/2012\/07\/09\/windows-server-2012-final-release-timing.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">available to customers worldwide through multiple channels in September<\/a>\u201d.&#160; <\/em>Yes, Windows Server 2012 will be GA before the desktop.&#160; That&#8217; makes sense actually, because the OEMs will need more time with the desktop OS than they will with the server OS.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px\" id=\"scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:2914e1a5-77df-4ca7-956e-31e2e6671857\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\">Technorati Tags: <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Windows+Server+2012\" rel=\"tag\">Windows Server 2012<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Windows+8\" rel=\"tag\">Windows 8<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Licensing\" rel=\"tag\">Licensing<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was actually under a rock, busy delivering some training, so I missed the WPC keynotes and the announcements today.&#160; Windows 8 is on track to RTM on the first week of August, assuming that there are no showstoppers between now and then.
