I saw something about this last week but didn\u2019t pay much attention until this morning.\u00a0 Gartner has ranked Microsoft as a leader in their Magic Quadrant for x86 Server Virtualization Infrastructure<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They are just behind VMware.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the fun bit: this is based on Windows Server 2008 R2<\/span><\/strong> Hyper-V and System Center \u201c2007\u201d<\/span><\/strong> versus vSphere 5.0.\u00a0 Wait until they get a load of System Center 2012 and Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The cautions that Gartner have for the Microsoft platform are all compete and market awareness based, rather than technical.\u00a0 And whereas Microsoft have gone for heterogeneous in System Center 2012, Gartner has a caution about the homogeneous virtualisation nature of VMware\u2019s management\/cloud vision \u2026 customers are concerned about vendor lock-in.<\/p>\n

Roll on next year.\u00a0 By the way, who owns Netscape now?<\/p>\n
