{"id":12762,"date":"2012-06-11T15:38:17","date_gmt":"2012-06-11T14:38:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=12762"},"modified":"2012-06-11T15:38:17","modified_gmt":"2012-06-11T14:38:17","slug":"june-2012-version-of-windows-intune-goes-live-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=12762","title":{"rendered":"June 2012 Version of Windows Intune Goes Live Today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new version of Windows Intune is <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.technet.com\/b\/stbnewsbytes\/archive\/2012\/06\/11\/microsoft-leads-the-way-to-the-era-of-the-cloud-os.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">going live today<\/a>.&#160; Intune is the cloud based user device management solution that bundles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows 7 Enterprise: featuring DirectAccess (VPN without VPN client), BranchCache (WAN optimisation), BitLocker (disk encryption), and BitLocker-To-Go (USB device encryption).<\/li>\n<li>Endpoint Protection: The only way to manage Endpoint Protection without using System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I say \u201cuser device management\u201d because Intune now supports:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The expected PCs, slates, and laptops running XP SP3 or later<\/li>\n<li>Windows Phone 7<\/li>\n<li>iPhone<\/li>\n<li>iPad<\/li>\n<li>Android<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And as reported at MMS, this includes side-loading apps onto Android and IOS.<\/p>\n<p>A unified experience across all devices through: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Automatic discovery of mobile devices that access Exchange Server <\/li>\n<li>User-centric views for device inventory <\/li>\n<li>A single console (the Windows Intune administrator console) to manage computers and mobile devices <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The ability to help secure corporate data on mobile devices through: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Targeting Exchange ActiveSync polices to user groups. Policies include settings that let you set requirements for password length and encryption (if it is supported by the mobile device). <\/li>\n<li>Setting device access rules by device family or model <\/li>\n<li>Retiring and\/or wiping lost, stolen, or otherwise compromised mobile devices. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The ability to make licensed internal line-of-business applications available for your users through: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hosting and targeting licensed internal line-of-business applications to user groups <\/li>\n<li>Self-service capabilities for your users, which enable them to download internal line-of-business applications to their mobile devices <\/li>\n<li>Prerequisites for supporting mobile devices with Windows Intune are as follows: <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An on-premises component to orchestrate communication between Exchange Server 2010 <\/p>\n<p>Service Pack 1 and later, and Windows Intune <\/p>\n<p>A computer that has access to the Exchange environment.
