Cluster Host Drain In Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I <a href=\"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=12311\" target=\"_blank\">showed<\/a> you how my Windows Server 8 Hyper-V lab is currently built (I\u2019m in the process of wiping to build something more flexible).\u00a0 Today, I\u2019m going to show you two things:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Not just Live Migration in action, but simultaneous Live Migration.\u00a0 I\u2019ll be moving all 66 VMs from Host1 to Host2, and they\u2019ll move 20 at a time.\u00a0 This is a huge improvement over the 1 at a time that we can do in W2008 R2, and way more than the maximum of 4 (on 1 GbE) or 8 (on 10 GbE) that vSphere 5.0 can handle.\u00a0 BTW, I was moving all of them at once last night <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile\" style=\"border-style: none;\" src=\"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/wlEmoticon-smile3.png\" alt=\"Smile\" \/><\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m going to perform the move by draining Host1 using a new pause function.\u00a0 This is used for host maintenance (similar to VMM maintenance mode) and will Live Migrate the VMs to the most suitable host (Failover Clustering measures memory, where VMM does Intelligent Placement).\u00a0 This pause function is used by Windows Server 8 Cluster Aware Updating.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In the demo, you\u2019ll see my 20 GbE NIC team that is used for Live Migration and the 1 GbE file server where the VMs are located:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:35475f77-647f-4511-850b-17471c3522b9\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\" style=\"margin: 0px;
