{"id":12037,"date":"2012-01-20T16:54:58","date_gmt":"2012-01-20T16:54:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=12037"},"modified":"2012-01-20T16:54:58","modified_gmt":"2012-01-20T16:54:58","slug":"put-my-money-where-my-keyboard-is-bought-an-ultrabook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=12037","title":{"rendered":"Put My Money Where My Keyboard Is \u2013 Bought An Ultrabook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in December 2011, I <a href=\"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=11951\" target=\"_blank\">blogged<\/a> about the variety of Intel-based Ultrabooks on the market and how they offer a cool, slim, light, and still powerful Windows based alternative to the MacBook Air.&#160; I had hands-on with the cracking (that\u2019s good) Toshiba Z830 and Sony VPCZ21M9E.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, as I returned from the Hyper-v.nu event in Amsterdam, I made my way into the electronics store near the E terminal, often a place with bargains (compared to Irish costs).&#160; And there I found the i5 version of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Zenbook-UX31E-DH72-13-3-Inch-Ultrabook-Aluminum\/dp\/B005USC9LA%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAIJ5WNI7ZSH7W4OXA%26tag%3Dafm0c-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB005USC9LA\" target=\"_blank\">Asus UX31E<\/a> (also comes in i7).&#160; After a quick double check online of the spec on airport\u2019s the free Wi-Fi, I decided to buy it for the price (under \u20ac1,000).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Zenbook-UX31E-DH72-13-3-Inch-Ultrabook-Aluminum\/dp\/B005USC9LA%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAIJ5WNI7ZSH7W4OXA%26tag%3Dafm0c-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB005USC9LA\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/41ZNTQkRKGL._SL500_.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a 128 GB SSD, 4 GB RAM, HDMI out, USB 3.0, 7 hour battery life, very slim machine.&#160; It is <em>silent.&#160; <\/em>It boots up so quickly.&#160; It wakes from sleep instantly.&#160; The chassis is brushed aluminium and it looks very classy.<\/p>\n<p>My main reason to get it was to get a light normal usage machine.&#160; It\u2019ll fit beautifully in <a href=\"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=10756\" target=\"_blank\">my camera bag<\/a> without adding bulk to prevent the bag being carried onto a flight.&#160; With USB 3.0 I can strap on an external drive for additional data (photos) and do Windows To Go for Windows 8 beta and RC when they come out.&#160; RTM will go on immediately to further extend battery life.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px\" id=\"scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:be322c5e-af2f-4d59-a895-d414fccce929\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\">Technorati Tags: <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Windows+7\" rel=\"tag\">Windows 7<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Windows+8\" rel=\"tag\">Windows 8<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Hardware\" rel=\"tag\">Hardware<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back in December 2011, I blogged about the variety of Intel-based Ultrabooks on the market and how they offer a cool, slim, light, and still powerful Windows based alternative to the MacBook Air.&#160; I had hands-on with the cracking (that\u2019s good) Toshiba Z830 and Sony VPCZ21M9E.
