The 6 percent fee starts paying in the first year, making the first-year fees 18 percent.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As a partner you will only get those fees <em>if<\/em> your customer registers you as the partner of record when they sign up.&#160; Unfortunately, that is optional and not a mandatory of the sign up process.&#160; In fact, it\u2019s a link that is tucked away off to the side.<\/p>\n<p>The customer will be asked for the Partner ID of the partner of record.&#160; That\u2019s not public information.&#160; So here\u2019s what might happen.&#160; A customer wants to sign up after you\u2019ve sold the concept of cloud computing.&#160; They go to the site.&#160; They go through the process.&#160; <em>Even<\/em> if they see the link and understand what it does, they won\u2019t have your Partner ID, they\u2019ll likely skip it, and pay Microsoft without you becoming the partner of record.<\/p>\n<p>My suggestions for the people selling O365 (yes; I\u2019m talking to you, sales people): <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Have your partner ID handy.&#160; Don\u2019t make it public, because it is used for a few different things in the partner programs.&#160; Know what the ID is.&#160; Most MSFT partners have no idea what their partner ID is.&#160; You can find it when you log into the Microsoft Partner Network website.<\/li>\n<li>When your customer agrees to sign up, go out to them (or remote assist them) and walk through the sign up process.&#160; Think of it as \u201cvalue added reselling\u201d.&#160; You know what your partner ID is and you\u2019ll know to hit that register partner link.&#160; If you\u2019re not there, the customer is sure to miss it, or they\u2019ll not be able to find\/read your email containing the ID.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A customer can add or change a partner of record using the <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinehelp.microsoft.com\/en-us\/office365-enterprises\/gg243435.aspx#bkmk_AddPartnerExisting\" target=\"_blank\">instructions on O365 online help<\/a>.&#160; I\u2019ve just done it for my subscription \u2026 giving one lucky partner in Galway all of a few cents per month.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px\" id=\"scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:010d572e-648a-4bdf-a56b-61ab69890379\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\">Technorati Tags: <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Office\" rel=\"tag\">Office<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Cloud\" rel=\"tag\">Cloud<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Cloud+Computing\" rel=\"tag\">Cloud Computing<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to Redmond Channel Partner: As with BPOS and other Microsoft cloud offerings, the payouts are 12 percent for net-add seats and 6 percent in annual recurring fees.
