2012 System Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The official TechNet content is a bit scattered about so I through I\u2019d reorganise it and consolidate to make stuff easier to find.&#160; The software requirements of Virtual Machine Manager (VMM\/SCVMM) 2012 are easy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter with SP1<\/li>\n<li>Windows Remote Management (WinRM) 2.0 \u2013 a part of W2008 R2<\/li>\n<li>.NET 3.5 with SP1 (a feature in W2008 R2)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkID=194654\" target=\"_blank\">WAIK&#160; for Windows 7<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There\u2019s a significant change for the database.&#160; SQL Express is no longer supported.&#160; You will need to migrate the VMM database to one of the supported versions\/editions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise\/Standard x86\/x64 (no news of support for the recent SP1 yet)<\/li>\n<li>SQL Server 2008 Enterprise\/Standard x86\/x64 with Service Pack 2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here\u2019s the system requirements for VMM 2012:<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Manage Up To 150 Hosts<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s be honest; how many of us <em>really<\/em> have anything close to 150 hosts to manage with VMM?&#160; Hell; how many of us have 15 hosts to manage?&#160; Anyway, here\u2019s the system requirements and basic architecture for this scale of deployment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/image17.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; in a highly available virtual machine.&#160; I don\u2019t like System Center being a part of a general production Hyper-V cluster.&#160; That\u2019s because you create a chicken\/egg situation with fault monitoring\/responding.&#160; If you want to virtualise System Center then consider setting up a dedicated host or cluster for the VMM, OpsMgr, ConfigMgr VMs.&#160; DPM is realistically going to remain physical because of disk requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Manage More Than 150 Hosts<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is recommended that you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Not use VMM server to host your library.&#160; Set the library up on a dedicated server\/cluster.<\/li>\n<li>Install SQL Server on a dedicated server\/cluster.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The VMM server requirements are:<\/p>\n<table being developed at the same time.&#160; <em>Maybe<\/em> support for v5 will appear later.<\/p>\n<p>Citrix XenServer 5.6 FP1 can also be managed as standalone hosts or as Resource Pools if you deploy the <a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkID=213177\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft SCVMM XenServer Integration Suite<\/a> to your hosts.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Bare Metal Host Deployment<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The requirements for being able to use VMM 2012 to deploy Hyper-V hosts to bare metal machines are:<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"2\"
