{"id":11283,"date":"2011-06-10T08:54:43","date_gmt":"2011-06-10T08:54:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=11283"},"modified":"2011-06-10T08:54:43","modified_gmt":"2011-06-10T08:54:43","slug":"microsoft-exchange-online-services-unbundled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=11283","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft Exchange Online Services Unbundled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post is as much for me as anyone else \u2013 the array of products from Microsoft is mind boggling.<\/p>\n<p>Once upon a time, Microsoft launched Exchange Hosted Services.&#160; Based on the name alone, it sounded like Microsoft were now hosting Exchange mailboxes, like some of their hosting customers had already been doing.&#160; But no, it was in fact a service that provided:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Online filtering of spam and malware<\/li>\n<li>Archiving<\/li>\n<li>Limited mailbox DR<\/li>\n<li>Web portal<\/li>\n<li>Mail encryption<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then along came BPOS (the product naming team strikes again) and that included mailbox hosting.&#160; At least that\u2019s been renamed to Office 365 \u2013&gt; but I\u2019m encountering a lot of people who thing that\u2019s just an alternative to the Office you install on your PC!<\/p>\n<p>You can subscribe to a bunch of online services for Exchange<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/online\/exchange-email-filtering.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Forefront Online Protection for Exchange<\/a>: This is the online anti-malware (8 engines) and anti spam solution, clearing up the crud before it gets to your Internet link to reach your mail servers.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/online\/exchange-email-archiving.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Exchange Online Archiving<\/a>: what is says on the tin.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/online\/exchange-email-encryption.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Exchange Hosted Encryption<\/a>: automatically encrypting emails for you based on policies that you configure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/online\/exchange-hosted-services.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Exchange Hosted Services<\/a> is still sold as a bundle including those 3 products.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px\" id=\"scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:8fb839fa-1ff9-4655-b304-a6da6917edcc\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\">Technorati Tags: <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Exchange\" rel=\"tag\">Exchange<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Cloud\" rel=\"tag\">Cloud<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Security\" rel=\"tag\">Security<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This post is as much for me as anyone else \u2013 the array of products from Microsoft is mind boggling.
