{"id":11043,"date":"2011-02-09T13:54:40","date_gmt":"2011-02-09T13:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=11043"},"modified":"2011-02-09T13:54:40","modified_gmt":"2011-02-09T13:54:40","slug":"windows-server-2008-r2-service-pack-1-rtm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=11043","title":{"rendered":"Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 \u201cRTM\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The news has broken that Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 SP1 has been \u201creleased to manufacturing\u201d.&#160; In other words, development and testing have been completed.&#160; TechNet\/MSDN customers get access to the download on Feb 16th.&#160; It will go GA on Feb 22nd.<\/p>\n<p>Last year I <a href=\"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=10740\" target=\"_blank\">listed<\/a> the then-included features of the service pack.&#160; The big two are RemoteFX (HD graphics via RDP for Remote Desktop Services Session Hosts and Hyper-V VDI) and, of course, Dynamic Memory for Hyper-V (memory allocated to VMs as required).<\/p>\n<p>Those who are using VMM should know that the changes affect VMM as well.&#160; VMM 2008 R2 RTM will not be aware of the RemoteFX or Dynamic Memory features.&#160; There is a Service Pack 1 on the way (it\u2019s an <a href=\"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=10990\" target=\"_blank\">RC release now<\/a>) to add support.&#160; Normally, an update for VMM will follow an associated Hyper-V update 90 days.&#160; But the VMM team has shared that you can expect to see Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 SP1 within 30 days of W2008 R2 SP1.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve set up a cluster with both service packs.&#160; You need to know that the VMM PRO management packs for OpsMgr also need to be updated in OpsMgr.&#160; You can find them in the VMM SP1 media.&#160; They will require updated dependencies.<\/p>\n<p>You may have noticed that my Hyper-V blogging was a little quiet as of late; that\u2019s because we didn\u2019t have much new stuff to talk about.&#160; I plan to get going again in the near future with these new features arriving on our doorsteps soon.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px\" id=\"scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:c1fbddea-776e-453a-baca-191f2b29c356\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\">Technorati Tags: <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Hyper-V\" rel=\"tag\">Hyper-V<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/VMM\" rel=\"tag\">VMM<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Windows+Server+2008+R2\" rel=\"tag\">Windows Server 2008 R2<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/Windows+7\" rel=\"tag\">Windows 7<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/System+Center\" rel=\"tag\">System Center<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The news has broken that Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 SP1 has been \u201creleased to manufacturing\u201d.&#160; In other words, development and testing have been completed.&#160; TechNet\/MSDN customers get access to the download on Feb 16th.&#160; It will go GA on Feb 22nd.
