{"id":10996,"date":"2010-12-16T13:28:20","date_gmt":"2010-12-16T13:28:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=10996"},"modified":"2010-12-16T13:28:20","modified_gmt":"2010-12-16T13:28:20","slug":"ms-france-says-oui-windows-8-hypervisor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=10996","title":{"rendered":"MS France Says: Oui; Windows 8 Hypervisor!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just read the following on <a href=\"http:\/\/searchvirtualdesktop.techtarget.com\/news\/2240025973\/Will-MinWin-and-a-Hyper-V-client-hypervisor-debut-in-Windows-8\" target=\"_blank\">SearchVirtualDesktop<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMicrosoft France&#8217;s technical and security director, Bernard Ourghanlian, mentioned <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcinpact.com\/actu\/news\/58083-microsoft-bernard-ourghanlian-virtualisation-noyau-windows-win8.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em>in a French publication<\/em><\/a><em> this summer that Hyper-V 3.0 will run as a client hypervisor on the desktop along with the <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/searchwindowsserver.techtarget.com\/definition\/MinWin\" target=\"_blank\"><em>MinWin<\/em><\/a><em> version of windows\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Wait; there are three things to note from that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Another Microsoft employee on the continent is talking out loud when they probably shouldn\u2019t be (Amsterdam is the usual leaky dam).<\/li>\n<li>MinWin is a name that\u2019s bounced around in the rumour mill for a while.\u00a0 It\u2019s thought to be a completely stripped down version of a Windows desktop OS, similar to Windows PE but not intended just for deployment tasks.<\/li>\n<li>A client hypervisor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It\u2019s that latter bit that\u2019s interesting.\u00a0 A new client-based hypervisor that is based on vNext of Hyper-V.\u00a0 Almost every Windows IT pro has wanted that since day 1.\u00a0 Right now we compromise with Windows Server &amp; Hyper-V on the laptop or use VMware Workstation (or similar).\u00a0 Virtual PC just hasn&#8217;t been able to compare in the past, and the current release is focused on application compatibility rather than virtualisation for demos or labs.<\/p>\n<p>A new MS client hypervisor that is a part of Windows 8 would probably bring an end to Virtual PC, I guess.\u00a0 And MED-V would see some sort of shift into being purely a VM distribution system \u2026 kind of a VMM-lite for client virtualisation.<\/p>\n<p>Who knows!\u00a0 I guess we\u2019ll have to wait for someone in MS Netherlands to feel like they\u2019ve been scooped and blurt out some more information. \u00a0I\u2019ve a funny feeling that they might get hunted down by someone in Redmond \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just read the following on SearchVirtualDesktop: \u201cMicrosoft France&#8217;s technical and security director, Bernard Ourghanlian, mentioned in a French publication this summer that Hyper-V 3.0 will run as a client hypervisor on the desktop along with the MinWin version of windows\u201d.
