Thanks to Tim Bolton<\/a> for making me aware of this.\u00a0 It appears<\/a> that MuckAfee (aka McAfee) distributed a bad AV update that breaks PC\u2019s.\u00a0 The malware definition file quarantined a critical XP system file.\u00a0 They admit that “The problem occurs with the 5958 virus definition file (DAT) that was released on April 21 at 2:00 P.M. GMT+1 (6:00 A.M. Pacific).”<\/em><\/p>\n

You know what?\u00a0 I really don\u2019t get why people still use MuckAfee or Sin-Mantec software.\u00a0 Both have had these issues in the past.\u00a0 This sort of failure makes me wonder about a complete lack of quality control in the release process.\u00a0 People have been burned and they continue to hand over money for this trash.\u00a0 Would you really go to a doctor who amputates your leg instead of extracting your appendix and then return to him again with an ingrown toe nail?\u00a0 Seriously?\u00a0 Get real and buy some decent software.\u00a0<\/p>\n

You do<\/em> have options!\u00a0 Trend Micro\u2019s up front cost may seem expensive but it is per user based.\u00a0 AVG\u2019s business product is fine \u2013 and very cheap.\u00a0 Microsoft\u2019s corporate and home solutions are easy to manage and lightweight on the machine.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But I guess I\u2019m wasting wear and tear on my keyboard.\u00a0 Those same people who\u2019ve just seen their XP PC\u2019s die will renew their support contracts because they just don\u2019t want to know better.\u00a0 So be it.<\/p>\n
