{"id":10419,"date":"2010-02-15T20:07:44","date_gmt":"2010-02-15T20:07:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=10419"},"modified":"2010-02-15T20:07:44","modified_gmt":"2010-02-15T20:07:44","slug":"system-center-capacity-planner-end-of-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=10419","title":{"rendered":"System Center Capacity Planner End of Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just read a <a href=\"http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sccp\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">blog post<\/a> by Microsoft staff that said System Center Capacity Planner is end of life and will have no new developments.&#160; That\u2019s a pity.&#160; It\u2019s a concept that was a really good idea, and could have extended to all products in the planning stages.<\/p>\n<p>The idea was that Microsoft would model how their different products would work.&#160; You would then describe your network and it would help you design a solution.&#160; A simulation could be run to see how your hardware would handle the work loads.&#160; Unfortunately it suffered from a few problems.&#160; The product set never really grew beyond Exchange, SharePoint and Operations Manager.&#160; The newer versions weren\u2019t added.&#160; And the available hardware models weren\u2019t kept up to date.&#160; Maybe if the model was open source it could have helped but it really needed Microsoft\u2019s assistance.<\/p>\n<p>On the Hyper-V front, I would have loved to see it integrate with data generated by MAP and OpsMgr\/VMM to help you design a Hyper-V farm managed by VMM.&#160; But that never came to be.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, the results were just a recommendation and not to be 100% relied upon.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sccp\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">post<\/a> describes alternative sources for planning OpsMgr, SharePoint and Exchange.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px\" id=\"scid:0767317B-992E-4b12-91E0-4F059A8CECA8:6c875091-8849-484d-8238-da337d75868e\" class=\"wlWriterEditableSmartContent\">Technorati Tags: <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tags\/System+Center\" rel=\"tag\">System Center<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just read a blog post by Microsoft staff that said System Center Capacity Planner is end of life and will have no new developments.&#160; That\u2019s a pity.&#160; It\u2019s a concept that was a really good idea, and could have extended to all products in the planning stages.
