{"id":10072,"date":"2009-11-27T13:12:51","date_gmt":"2009-11-27T13:12:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/index.php\/2009\/11\/extending-a-w2008-r2-hyper-v-cluster-shared-volume\/"},"modified":"2009-11-27T13:12:51","modified_gmt":"2009-11-27T13:12:51","slug":"extending-a-w2008-r2-hyper-v-cluster-shared-volume","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aidanfinn.com\/?p=10072","title":{"rendered":"Extending a W2008 R2 Hyper-V Cluster Shared Volume"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Unlike VMware\u2019s VMFS, we can extend a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) without doing trickery that compromises performance.&#160; And has has been <a href=\"http:\/\/hyper-v.nu\/blogs\/hans\/?p=30\" target=\"_blank\">documented<\/a> by Hans Vredevoort (clustering MVP) it is very scalable.<\/p>\n<p>How do you resize or expand a CSV?&#160; It\u2019s a pretty simple process:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use your storage management solution (I\u2019m using HP EVA Command View for the EVA SAN) to expand the size of the LUN or disk. <\/li>\n<li>Use the Failover Clustering MMC to identify who is the CSV coordinator, i.e. the owner of the disk. <\/li>\n<li>Log into the CSV coordinator. <\/li>\n<li>Use either Computer Management-&gt;Storage Management or DISKPART. <\/li>\n<li>Remember to rescan the disks. <\/li>\n<li>Extend the volume to use all available space. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The steps for using DISKPART are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>rescan <\/li>\n<li>list volume <em>get the ID number for the CSV from here<\/em> <\/li>\n<li>select volume &lt;ID Number&gt; <em>using the ID number from the previous step&gt;<\/em><\/li>\n<li>extend <\/li>\n<li>list volume <em>to see the results<\/em> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s a painless operation and has no impact on running VM\u2019s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unlike VMware\u2019s VMFS, we can extend a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) without doing trickery that compromises performance.&#160; And has has been documented by Hans Vredevoort (clustering MVP) it is very scalable.
